The Quintessence Breastfeeding Challenge History

Since its beginnings in 2001, Breast Feeding Matters has co-hosted the annual Quintessence Breastfeeding Challenge with VIHA. The goal is to set the record for the most babies breastfeeding at one time. The winners of the competition are the region (province or territory or state) with the most babies participating as a percentage of the birth rate.

The purpose of the event is to celebrate breastfeeding and show support for breastfeeding women and their families. It’s a chance for education and peer support in a fun, social way.

In 2009 there were over 4,721 babies participating at 242 sites in 20 countries. Here in Victoria 134 mothers and 146 babies came to SilverCity to take part in this global breastfeeding event, placing second for largest site-in the world! In Victoria our results are as follows:
